Experience very old koninis (native tree fuchsias)

Kaikawaka (cemetery) scenic reserve

The Kaikawaka Scenic Reserve can be found south of Rangiwahia on Wairaki Street.
Turn off Rangiwahia Road onto Miangaroa Road & continue onto Wairaki Street. The Rangiwahia Cemetery is tucked away at the end of this no exit road with the Reserve providing a peaceful backdrop.
It is 5 hectares (12 acre), a much smaller Reserve than the Rangiwahia Scenic Reserve, taking about 20 minutes non-stop to walk around the pest-control track.
The Reserve begins
  • on flat ground, then continues up a moderate climb
  • It vias to the right along the top for a short distance before dropping down a moderately steep slope before coming onto the flat ground.
  • It is loop track and well marked.
The track within this Reserve is not an official Dept of Conservation (DOC) track and is used for the purpose of pest-control, but may be walked.
