time to enjoy the view

Cycling The manawatu scenic route

The Manawatu Scenic Route is for cyclists, motorcyclists, cars and camper vans. It is also home to tractors, cattle and sheep so please be mindful that you are sharing the roads with others. Always travel either single file, and no more than two abreast.

SAFETY FOR CYCLISTS
  • Drivers, Please do watch for cyclists on the road. They too enjoy The Manawatu Scenic Route and have as much right to the road as other vehicles
  • When cycling along roads, please stay to the left side of the road, and keep your eyes and ears alert for cars or vehicles approaching.
  • You may come across a farmer driving sheep or cattle. cycle carefully and slowly through them and don’t frighten them. Watch the farmer for cues as to when it is safe to pass.
  • Please don’t throw your litter away, be a tidy cyclist and help us keep this area as it should be.
  • You can take your cell phone, but coverage is limited.
  • Take plenty of water and energy snacks with you, as there aren't many places to stop and fill your bottle.
