Signage

The upgraded wooden fence displays the "Health & Safety" and large information signs at the top end of the carpark
  • Our community signage project in the Rangiwahia Scenic Reserve has been completed.
  • In 2023, CEDA, Manawatū, funded the large entrance sign at the carpark. So the allocated community  funding was redirected to a project to replace the deteriorating A4-sized information signs and maps throughout reserve. These signs were made from the same material as the large sign and using the same colour profile as the large sign.
  • The signs tell a story about the diversity of trees, fungi, ferns and birds found within the reserve.
  • Not everyone will want to stop and look at them, but, for those that want to learn more about New Zealand's flora and fauna, the signs will hopefully be of benefit.

The "Health & Safety" sign

  • Thanks to the the following botanists; the late Graham Pritchard, Suzanne Clarke, Allan Hardacre and Lara Shepherd plus Forest and Bird members and the Manawatu Tramping Club, who have willingly shared their knowledge with us. We have learnt so much from them all and want to share that information with others, including school children.

  • The botanists were instrumental in the tree-labeling project, which saw over 135 labels being placed along the tracks to identify a wide range of the flora.
  • Thank you so much to our wonderful community for supporting us through this project, and Hamish and Amy (our eldest son and daughter-in-law) who helped put up the signs. We also thank Janet at CEDA for assisting us with the signs and getting them ready for printing. She is amazing.
  • Thank you to Mary Mercer from the Manawatu Tramping Club and Jemma Robertson, Rangiwahia, for proof reading the scripts of all the signs and ensuring the information was correct.
  • The Nature Guide To The New Zealand Forest by John Dawson and Rob Lucas, and The Native Trees of New Zealand by JT Salmond were the books I used to help me with the information on the signs. Both incredibly informative books.
With grateful thanks, Mary & Steve Bielski
