Triangle track & Hut
Triangle Hut is a six bunk hut situated between Rangiwahia and Iron Gates Huts in the Oroua River catchment. It sits above the river on a raised terrace. You will need to set out early for this one, as it takes you up past Rangiwahia Hut, over the Whanahuia Range then down on to Triangle Hut. This can take approximately 6 to 8 hours. From Rangiwahia Hut, head to the top of the Whanahuia Range, then head north for about 40 minutes to where the Triangle Hut track turns off and descends steeply down the eastern side of the range. Starting from Alice Nash Heritage Lodge via Iron Gates Hut, the tramp will take about 6-7 hours. Between the huts Blue Duck have been sited along the The Oroua River. It is a long trip, meaning a night's stay at the hut. Due to travel on the open tops this tramp should not be attempted in poor visibility or bad weather. For experienced hikers. Outdoor Safety Code: 1. Plan your trip 2. Tell someone 3. Be aware of the weather 4. Know your limits 5. Take sufficient supplies For more information visit Adventure Smart |
