Wood pigeon (kereru) in the plum tree
Bird life is abundant in the Iron Gates experience,
some would say it is a photographers dream,
thats if actually get to see them!
Many of our endemic and native birds prefer the
tree topsright out of view. More often you hear
them & see from a distance.
The secret is to be patient & just sit and wait.
Sometimes you just mange to be at the
right place at the right time as was the case with the
Morepork in the above photo.
Steve took this photo one night in our garden.
He happened to be outside when the Morepork flew past missing him by a whisker. Steve found him sitting in the Kowhai tree with rimu foliage hanging behind.
He shone his headlight onto him & he sat there for several minutes while we took photos.
