Iron Gates Hut

Picture
Iron Gates Hut is situated about 3-4 hours from the Alice Nash Heritage Memorial Lodge for trampers of average speed. The hut is about 4 hours tramp from the Iron Gates Gorge. Iron Gates Hut is a basic, back country hut. A wood fired stove helps keep the hut warm in the colder months, but you will need to collect firewood from the surrounding bush. There are platform bunks with mattresses which can sleep seven people. This is classed as a standard Department of Conservation Hut, so you will need a hut pass or hut ticket. These can be purchased form the Palmerston North City i-SITE, 0800 626 292.
