Cross Hills GArdens & Nursery
The Wilson family have created a 7 hectare (17 acres) world renowned park a few kilometers north of Kimbolton Village.
It includes one of the world's finest collections of Rhododendrons and Azaleas.
Because of the more acid soil and cooler climate, the northern Manawatu, which includes Kimbolton, is ideal for growing Rhododendrons.
The park is also home to a huge variety of trees, shrubs and plants including conifers, maples, oaks, beeches, liquidambars, camellias, cherries, magnolias and trilliums. The list is endless.
October and November are the most colourful months of the year. People, who visit the gardens at these times are in for a feast of colour, and around every corner there is something different to explore or see along the well-formed walkways from water features, waterfalls, magnificent clematis display, a camellia Millennium Maze.
Cross Hills Gardens is now home to the famous Cross Hills Country Fair with people coming from all over the country to sell their products. It also provides opportunities for visitors to wander around the park. This annual event occurs in November.
Cross Hills also has an Plant Centre, where people may purchase a great selection of plants, including Rhododendrons & Azaleas - all grown site.
The Garden Cafe is also available near the entrance. It operates daily from 13th October to the 18th November through part of the peak spring season and seats 60 people for morning and afternoon teas and light lunches.
